John Parken is Springdale’s Citizen of the Season for Fall 2009. John’s nomination is an excellent choice, since his service to the community touches nearly everyone in one way or another.
In spite of his busy life, John schedules much of his time with the Rockville/Springdale Fire District Ambulance Service, where his certification as a paramedic gives him more education and experience to offer patients. Not only that, but John has stepped up as the ambulance service’s training officer. He conducts or coordinates regular training opportunities for ambulance personnel so that they may keep up with the rigorous continuing education standards of their profession.
John and his fellow ambulance crewmembers were recently recognized in a letter to the District from a visitor who was transported by ambulance from Springdale to Dixie Regional Medical Center. The patient, a retired police officer from New York City, praised John and the others, saying that he would rank their professionalism right up there with the work of New York’s finest!
And that’s not all. John is an active Z-ARTS member. He organized this year’s “Open Studio and Gallery Tour” including recruiting participants, developing publicity, and coordinating an auction fund raiser, among other things. This huge effort brings many visitors into Springdale and gives artists who don’t otherwise have venues an opportunity to display and sell their works. Participants and visitors alike declared that this year’s tour under John’s skilled leadership was the “best ever!”
Thanks to John for all he does for Springdale and the entire Zion Canyon community.
