Citizen Of The Season
Fall 2012
On rare and fine occasions, one person is in the right place at the right time and knows the right people to convince to make something happen that would be otherwise impossible. Mike Marriott was that person this summer and the new hiking/biking trail in Springdale is the result. Almost 300 people from the LDS LaVerkin Stake showed up one July morning to blaze the trail and essentially finished it in one morning. A few days later they came with friends – over 1000 people - to Springdale’s 24th of July Extravaganza – also a Mike Marriott creation.
In recognition of his organizational efforts, the grateful Springdale Town Council has chosen Mike to be the Citizen of the Season for Fall 2012.
Mike has also served on the Planning Commission since 2008, including a year as chairman. He and his wife Kristen live in Canyon Springs with their daughter Dulcinea.
Mike says he would like to turn the 24th of July in to a great family tradition in Springdale. He also has ideas brewing in his head about the 4th of July. He says, “I’m all for lots of community celebrations. We don’t all have to see eye to eye; we just need to get together and build friendships and community.”
Of the new trail, he says “Hopefully the trail will last a long time. Hopefully everyone will go out and enjoy it. It’s a beautiful place to go.” We all thank him for coordinating the immense effort of the many people who made such a fine thing happen here in Springdale. When we honor him, we also honor them.
