The Butch Cassidy Race follows a scenic course along the Virgin River from Springdale to the historic Grafton ghost town. It is the most fun race you will ever do. Register promptly because the race will reach the registration cap quickly. And if you miss out on getting in you will be really, really sad.
Registration for the 2016 Butch Cassidy race will open on July, 24 2016.
The Butch Cassidy race offers two distances: 10K and 5K. Both courses are incredibly scenic. The 10K begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Driftwood Lodge at 1515 Zion Park Blvd in Springdale, Utah. The 5K begins at 8:45 a.m. just past the bridge on Bridge Road in Rockville. Both races finish in the quiet ghost town of Grafton.
The course is generally downhill following the course of the Virgin River, but there are a few uphill sections just to keep you honest. The course is on paved road, except for the last half mile which is on dirt road. The course will be closed to traffic during the race.
The following helpful hints and race day reminders will help you have a fun and memorable experience at the Butch Cassidy Race.
You can pick up your registration packet on Friday, November 11 at the Springdale Town Hall (118 Lion Blvd) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also pick up your packet on Saturday, November 12 at the Driftwood Lodge (1515 Zion Park Blvd - 10K start line) starting at 7:30 a.m. If you are a 5K runner picking up your packet on Saturday morning you will need to arrive early enough to allow yourself time to ride the free shuttle to the 5K start line (the last shuttle leaves the Driftwood Lodge shortly after 8:00 a.m.).
Please park at the LDS Church across the street from the Driftwood Lodge in Springdale (1515 Zion Park Blvd). Do not park at the Driftwood Lodge. There is no parking at the finish area in Grafton. Do not attempt to park in Grafton.
Race Start Times
The 5K starts just past the bridge on Bridge Road in Rockville at 8:45 a.m. The 10K starts in front of the Driftwood Lodge in Springdale at 9:00 a.m.
If you are a 5K runner you will ride a shuttle from the Driftwood Lodge in Springdale to the 5K start line. Spectators can also ride the shuttles from the Driftwood Lodge to the finish line in Grafton. Shuttles will start running at 7:30 a.m. The last shuttle will leave the Driftwood Lodge shortly after 8:00 a.m. You will not be able to get to the 5K start line if you miss the last shuttle. Also, the last shuttle only carries 12 people. If there are more than 12 people waiting to get on the last shuttle we will decide who gets a ride through a series of feats of strength. Please take an early shuttle and save yourself the hassle.
After the race shuttles will take all racers (10K and 5K) as well as all spectators back to the Driftwood Lodge. The first shuttle back to Springdale will not leave Grafton until the 10K course is clear (usually around 10:20 a.m.). There will be food, music, activities and entertainment in Grafton for you to enjoy as you wait for the shuttles.
Timing and Awards
The race will be timed by Runner Card. Results will be available at www.runnercard.com after the race. Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in both the 5K and 10K, as well as to the top three finishers in each age category.
