The Springdale Planning Commission is in the process of updating the General Plan. The most recent General Plan update was approved in December of 2005. The Commission is hopeful the current update will be ready for approval and adoption by December 2010.

The 2005 General Plan emphasized the need to protect and promote Springdale's unique village character and small town feel. The current update will build on the solid foundation established in the 2005 Plan.

The Planning Commission has identified four key areas to examine during the General Plan update. These areas are:

1- Future Land Use Map. The Commission wants to add more detail to the map to help shape the vision of the Town's future. Key questions are: Where should new homes be built? Where should new business go? What are the critical pieces of open space to preserve? Where should trails be built?

2- Parking Management. Parking congestion is an ever increasing problem in Springdale. The Planning Commission wants to establish goals, objectives, and strategies to start reducing the negative impacts associated with parking congestion.

3- Housing. The housing choices in Springdale are fairly limited. Most housing options are single family residences with steadily escalating price tags. The Commission want to explore options to increase the diversity of housing choices in town, with the aim of reducing housing costs for the town's work force residents.

4- Sustainability. In connection with the ongoing Green Springdale effort, the Commission wants to identify strategies to reduce our impact on the local and global environments.

The Commission wants your input during the General Plan update! Please come to a Planning Commission work meeting (every first Tuesday at 5PM) to share your thoughts, or email your comments to dcd@infowest.com.
