The Springdale/Zion Canyon Department of Public Safety currently provides law enforcement for the towns of Springdale, Rockville, Virgin, and the historic ghost town of Grafton. We have three (3) full-time police officers, including a Chief of Police. We currently have reserve officers who assist with special events, concerts, parades, etc.
Springdale, Rockville, and Virgin have a combined population of approx. 1400 citizens who reside year round here in the canyon. Springdale, which is located at the west entrance of Zion National Park, receives just under three million visitors annually. Our agency patrols approx. twenty miles of State Road #9, which runs to the entrance of Zion National Park and through all of the communities we cover.
The Police Department oversees animal control and an animal shelter, school crossing guard, and enforces all local and state criminal statutes. We work hand in hand with Zion National Park Law Enforcement Rangers, including a mutual aid agreement.
Our agency works with various events held here in Zion Canyon, including the World Senior Games, Red Rock Relay Race, Zion Canyon Music Festival, the Butch Cassidy 10K Race, and various other events which are held here annually.
We work closely with the Springdale Elementary School, which teaches youth for the Zion Canyon communities. We host Red Ribbon Week in the early fall, which includes a climbing wall, pizza, and prizes for the entire school. The students look forward to this event every year.
